Something interesting happened at the beginning of the academic year; four of my tutors, two that actually taught me last year, and two that would either teach me this year or the upcoming year, have nominated for something called the Women in Property Awards which are awards given by the association of the Women in Property that helps out females that want to work in the property and construction industry and provides them with opportunities to enter the industry.
This is an amazing opportunity that came out of nowhere, and I am so grateful for having these tutors choose me as the person to represent UWE and have full confidence in me to believe that maybe I could win.
Anyways, so I had an interview a while back in February, right when the fourth project started. I was still stuck on the second project, because I was improving it for interview and made sure it met my own standards. I went to the interview, and I walked in, actually having forgotten the exact paper had everything I needed to say on there, so I basically went off by memory. I thought the interview went great. There was entire debate that started in which me and the judge started talking about the importance of function over user experience and the way we design different types of buildings.
I wasn't wrong, according to the judges feedback which I had a call about yesterday, I actually left an impression after I left the room, I managed to answer some pretty difficult questions perfectly, came in well-prepared and executed the presentation easily as well as presenting myself as a confident individual. The feedback was so good, I am starting to question whether there is a possibility I could actually win.
I am only questioning because the only bad feedback that I got was that I was fidgeting in my chair and that I should have stood up and given my presentation instead. P.S: I did the presentation sat down for a reason; it was out of respect and a way of humbling myself in front of the judges (something that Rem Koolhaas did in the 425 Park Avenue Pitch). No other bad feedback was given. This is amazing! I actually have a shot at winning!
